What is solidarity?: Journalism at Western’s Palestine encampments

On April 30th, I gave a talk at a conference held by Western University's department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies called "Showing Up: Solidarities and Feminisms in Times of Crisis". My talk was called “What is solidarity?: Journalism at Western’s Palestine encampments”.

I talked for ~20 minutes about how solidarity was practiced at the encampments by sharing excerpts from my article “All of humanity should break out in a fever”: Seven days at Western University’s encampments , which covered the encampment’s first seven days, and tentatively pooling the excerpts into some “general principles” of solidarity.

I also share how the Palestine encampments informed my journalism work in ways that defy the "values" of traditional, mainstream journalism, particularly "impartiality" as defined by some mainstream press. I propose my ideas for a new form of journalistic practice that will bring journalism that contributes to building a just world order.
